Gary On Track for Hungary
Gary Thompson heads to the Hungaroring near Budapest next week for testing ahead of the latest addition to his race programme in his debut season of car racing. The 2009 Formula BMW Pacific Championship leader has announced that he will drive in the Formula BMW Europe round supporting the Hungarian Grand Prix in July with Raikkonen Robertson Racing.
The 16-year-old Dubliner scored a win and third place on his Formula BMW Pacific series debut at the Malaysian Grand Prix to head the early points standings in the important single seater feeder category.
Thompson has confirmed plans to drive at the Formula BMW Europe series races at the British and Belgian Grand Prix later this season and is delighted to have added another event to his 2009 race calendar.
I’m really looking forward to racing at Hungaroring, the Aviation Display supported driver said. I’ve had a great start to the season with E-Rain Motorsport in Asia and I’ve enjoyed testing with Raikkonen Robertson in Europe so it’s been fun so far."
The Hungaroring looks like a very tight and twisty circuit for F1 cars but I suspect Formula BMW cars will be able to stretch their legs a bit more. Still, I know it’s going to be a big workout, especially in the heat of Central Europe that the circuit is so well known for.
Following his testing duties at the Hungaroring, Thompsons next race action on May 29th is back at Sepang, Malaysia, the scene of his sensational car racing debut last month.
This year’s Formula BMW Pacific series takes in events at Formula One Grands Prix in Malaysia, and Singapore as well as events in Japan, Indonesia and the world famous Macau Grand Prix festival.
Thompson will also take part in events counting for the Formula BMW Europe series at the Hungarian, British and Belgian Grand Prix when he will drive for the Raikkonen Robertson team.
