Thompson to Race at British GP with Raikkonen Robertson

Ireland’s Gary Thompson has signed with Formula BMW Europe squad Raikkonen Robertson to race on the support card of the British Grand prix in Silverstone in July.
The 16-year-old from Donabate, Co Dublin is preparing for his first full season of car racing with E-Rain Motorsport in Formula BMW Asia and is also looking forward to a limited campaign of races in the European series.
Following successful final Formula BMW Pacific series testing in Sepang, Malaysia last week, Thompson is in action a little closer to home this week as he conducts tests with Raikkonen Robertson, one of the best known teams in European junior single seater racing.
Founded by Ferrari’s former world champion ‘Kimi Raikkonen and his managers Paul and Steve Robertson, Double R Racing has forged an enviable reputation in recent seasons for discovering and developing young driving talent.
In four full years of competition the team has won no less than 19 British F3 races and 6 Formula BMW races.
Thompson will race with the squad in Silverstone in a complementary programme to his main goal of success in the Formula BMW Pacific series which gets under way on the weekend of the Malaysian Grand Prix on April 5th.
This week’s test on the Silverstone Grand Prix track will be Thompson’s first visit as a driver to the iconic venue which hosted the first British Grand Prix in 1948 and the former karting star is looking forward to making a further addition to his fast growing bank of experience.
“It’s all go at the moment and it’ll be interesting to see how I adapt to another team and track this week,” said Gary. “I’m very excited to be driving with Raikkonen Robertson Racing who have a great reputation and have been successful with these cars.”
