Thompsons Final Pre-Season Test
Added: 28th February 2009

Gary Thompson heads to Sepang, Malaysia next week to continue preparation for the 2009 Formula BMW Pacific series, his first in car racing.
Thompson signed with Formula BMW Pacific team Pena Motorsport before Christmas and the 16-year-old from Donabate, Co Dublin heads back to Asia this weekend to continue his acclimatisation to his 'slicks and wings' Formula BMW machine.
With six days of testing planned between March 3 and 12th at the Malaysia Grand Prix venue, Thompson is looking forward to fine tuning the skills learned in recent testing at Sepang, Batangas and Shanghai.
Working with Pena Motorsport chief engineer John O'Hara, Thompson will also putting the final touches on his car set up ahead of the first round of the series at Sepang on April 5th.
This year's Formula BMW Pacific series takes in events at Formula One Grands Prix in Malaysia, and Singapore as well as events in Japan, Indonesia and the world famous Macau Grand Prix festival.
Thompson is also exploring opportunities to take in selected races in the Formula BMW Europe series at the Spanish, Belgian and Italian Grands Prix.
Looking forward to his final pre season test, Thompson was eager to maximise his preparation time ahead of a testing moratorium due to come into place shortly.
"We need to make the most of next week in Sepang as it will be the last track time before the race weekend," says Thompson. "I can't get enough at the moment. It's such a buzz to be driving with such a professional outfit at a Formula One track.
"I'm making progress and learning loads and I can't wait to get going. I'm just about ready to start racing cars and we'll have to see how competitive we are. Hopefully we'll be running at or near the front."
