Gary to test for ERain Racing in Sepang

Gary Thompson is off to Sepang, Malaysia this week to begin his final test of the year and further evaluate his options for the 2009 season.
The 16-year-old from Donabate, Co Dublin will test with ERain Motorsport in a Formula BMW machine similar to that which he has undertook most of his preparation ahead of his move from karts to car racing next year.
During his latest visit to Asia Thompson will also test with Pena Motorsport and Aran Racing before he and his father Noel make a final decision on his plans for 2009.
The 2008 season began promisingly with fourth pace in the highly prestigious Margutti Trophy but bad luck and injury led Thompson to focus his attention from mid-year on the move to cars.
Having finished a fine third in last year's British Super One JICA championship, Thompson will be in demand among teams vying for contention in the Formula BMW Pacific championship which he is currently targeting.
As well as racing in the Pacific region on current Grand Prix tracks Sepang and Shanghai, Thompson is also likely to take in selected rounds of the Formula BMW Europe series with events at legendary circuits Spa Francorchamps and Monza.
The leading academy for aspiring F1 stars, Formula BMW is the logical first step on the car racing ladder and Thompson's tests to date indicate that he is more than ready to make the next step.
“It'll be great to test with another team to make further comparisons,” says Thompson. “It's like another exam and, after doing my Junior cert this year I didn't think I'd want to do any more of them so soon but it's different when it's behind the wheel of a racing car.
“We've got several options to weigh up at this stage and we're going to be properly prepared for the new season. It's going to be a long wait to get going after Christmas and I hope I can get a decision made before then. That would be the best present possible.”
