Gary Thompson is back testing in Asia this week ahead of a planned move to car racing in 2009.

The 16-year-old Dubliner is at Shaghai, the Chinese Grand Prix track for an extended test in a Formula Renault with Mach 3 Motorsport as he continues preparation for a probable move to the Asian Formula BMW championship.
Gary will test a Formula BMW and Formula Renault during the extended stay, bookending a visit with a Formula Renault test at the Chinese Grand Prix venue Shanghai and Zhuhai near Hong Kong. Finishing his visit with as a Guest of Aran Racing for the Macau GP.
During his China trip Gary will test a Mach 3 Motorsport car and Pena Motorsport Formula BMW as he evaluates other opportunities for next season and acquires further experience in a variety of machinery.
Gary is looking forward to accumulating further single seater mileage on demanding international circuits.
"It's a busy trip but I'm enjoying seeing different tracks and driving different cars," he says. "I'm getting fitter and faster and learning more and more about what's involved in making cars go quick.
"The team is very well organised and it's great to test at long, fast tracks in good weather."
Gary is due home on the 17th of November and will test again in Asia in December.
